The Ten Commandments

Since Easter is coming up, I thought that I would talk about the movie The Ten Commandments.

You must see this movie at least once. It is a grand spectacle.  A masterpiece of movie making. Charlton Heston, the actor who played Moses, is superb. You have to see it at least one time in your life.

Or so says my wife, who watches it every year. I’m not a fan of religious movies or even statues for that matter. I always feel uneasy watching this stuff, or even looking at the statues, don’t like the art style, don’t know why, but to please her, a few years ago I did watch The Ten Commandments and here is my review.

First of all I know that in the movie Bowling for Columbine (didn’t see it), that there was some talk about an interview with Charlton Heston, where he made some racists remarks. If this is true (Why don’t I just look it up?  Don’t want to. I mean, close a window, open another window. Why does life have to be so complicated?)

So, anyway, if this racist stuff is true, than at least he makes sense in the role of Moses, because I can, then, absolutely believe that he wanted the Jews out of Egypt. There were also some pretty good special effects for the day.

Other than that, my review of the movie is that it was just soooooo serious that I wanted to hang myself. The first thing I said to my wife when it was over was, “Do you realize not one person cracked a smile through that entire movie? Not one joke, not one light moment.

“Because it was a serious movie,” she said.

OK, is there an echo in here? I thought I just said that.

So, am I recommending it? Sure. If you’d rather watch the movie than read the book.

But, then again, maybe you’d get more out of reading the book, because, to be honest, after almost four hours of watching the movie, I’m still not quite sure what the point was.
