The Kids Rule, What Else Can I Say

Written By: Sy - Apr• 13•11

I’m going to tell a couple of stories about one of my kids. I know, everybody likes to talk about their kids and the rest of us just persevere and listen, but when you’re a parent the kids do rule and I promise I’ll listen when it’s your turn.

These stories both involve my daughter between the ages of 10 and 13.

One day while walking through a mall parking lot I decide to point out to her that I notice that every time I see a man and a woman walking together, approx 90% of the time, if not more, the woman is running her mouth non-stop and the man is just walking along, quietly, not saying a word.

Without missing a beat she says, “I’ve noticed that too, dad, unless of course it’s a father and a daughter.”

OK, high five on that one. I was impressed.

This other time, I guess, I also couldn’t help but be somewhat impressed at her resolve.

While walking by a shoe store, she stopped me, pointed to a pair of athletic shoes in the window and said, “These are the shoes I want, and they’re only $125.00.”

I told her, “$125.00!!? That’s like a week’s worth of groceries!”

She looked back at the shoes, thought for a moment, then looked back at me and said, “I can make it, if you can!”

What else can I say. They rule. She didn’t get the shoes.
